Missouri’s current service is the Missouri Victim Automated Notification System, or MOVANS. The current MOVANS public portal is more accurate for Missouri instructions than a generic VINELink landing page. It supports separate searches tied to court events, local jail or detention supervision, and MODOC custody or supervision. Its role is a specific-person check and notification, not a countywide recent-release list.
Choose local detention when the known record is a Bates County Jail booking. Choose MODOC when the person is in a state prison, on parole, on conditional release, or otherwise under state corrections supervision. Choose the court stream for eligible court-event notices. The system that returns the record determines what an event means. A local “released” event confirms that the local agency reported a custody change. It does not establish whether the person entered the community or transferred elsewhere.

Register for Bates County Alerts
Registration attaches a notification method to one selected record. For the current local jail and detention stream, use SMS text or email. Keep the confirmation and make sure the contact method remains accessible. Do not enter another person’s private contact data or expose notification details in a public record search.

A registration should be tied to the correct agency record and kept private. If several people share a name, compare identifiers and the facility before confirming. Save the portal confirmation, but do not treat registration as proof that an alert will describe every later legal event. A jail custody alert, a court-event notice, and a MODOC supervision event can arrive from different streams and at different times.
Bates Alerts Changed in May 2026
Missouri made a major local notification change on May 5, 2026. The Missouri DPS transition notice controls the current Bates County local jail instructions. People following local jail or detention records had to create a new registration, including many people who had registered before the change.
Current local alerts use SMS text or email. Automated telephone calls and VINELink app notifications are no longer offered for that local stream. The May 2026 notice captured below documents the change and the need to register again.
The transition means an old registration cannot safely be assumed active. Confirm the new record, channel, and registration directly in MOVANS.
Older Missouri instructions often describe a four-digit PIN used to stop repeat automated calls. That PIN belonged to the legacy phone process. It is historical context, not a current step for Bates County local jail SMS or email registration. Following the old workflow could leave a user waiting for a notification channel that no longer operates.
Limits of a Bates VINELink Check
MOVANS is not a permanent release archive. An older result may no longer be searchable, and an event can depend on agency or vendor updates. Confirm a Bates County Release
